Department Chair of Engineering Technology

 

The new College of Engineering of the University of North Texas (UNT) seeks applicants for the position of Chair of its Engineering Technology Department.  The Engineering Technology (ETEC) Department is located in the College of Engineering, in the 290 acres UNT Research Park.  The Engineering Technology Department is currently expanding its enrollment, industrial interactions, and research capabilities.  Situated in a high technology corridor, the department offers BS and MS degrees in the areas of Electronics, Manufacturing, Mechanical, and Nuclear Engineering Technology - all of which are accredited by the TAC of ABET.  A recently revived Construction Engineering Technology program will seek accreditation in the near future. 

 

UNT’s College of Engineering has approximately 1,400 students in its 550,000 sq. ft. building which houses the departments of Materials Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering (with degree programs in Computer Science and in Computer Engineering), Electrical Engineering, and Engineering Technology.  The Engineering Technology program (http://www.etec.unt.edu ) has approximately 380 students in its BS and MS programs with eleven faculty, five lecturers, and $645,000 in research grants. 

 

The ETEC department chair will provide dynamic and enthusiastic leadership in a range of activities which include maintaining TAC of ABET accreditation, developing the graduate programs, coordinating curriculum development, interacting with local industry, developing relevant research programs, developing an exemplary faculty, and collaborating with other academic units.  Candidates must qualify for a tenure appointment at the full professor rank with a doctorate in an engineering discipline or in a closely related field, have at least three years’ industrial experience, and demonstrated administrative experience in academic or industry.  This should include full-time engineering teaching experience in an ABET accredited program; the ability to represent the department effectively on campus and in interactions with public and private sectors; a solid track record of externally funded research and the ability to obtain and manage funded departmental projects; a record of technical publications and presentations; and participation in technical societies.  US citizenship or permanent residence is required.   Start-up funding to assist in the continuation and expansion of basic and/or applied research is available.  Salary is negotiable.  This position reports to the Dean of the College of Engineering.

 

UNT (http://www.unt.edu ) has an enrollment in excess of 32,000 students and is located in Denton, Texas, 35 miles north of D/FW airport.  Denton is an attractive city of approximately 100,000 situated in the progressive, high-growth, Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area.  The University, founded in 1880, is the fourth largest university in Texas offering a broad range of courses in 93 bachelors, 114 masters and 49 doctoral programs.
