Q: What is a degree audit/plan? When and how do I request one?

A: Audit info page

Q: How can I get a copy of my degree audit?

A: Audit info page

Q: How do I read my degree audit?

A: Audit info page

Q: Does the College of Engineering require a minor?

A: No, but students may elect to add a minor in a field of interest or to enhance their resumes.

Q: Can I take a course at another school and transfer it back to UNT?

A: Yes; however, you will need to get approval from an advisor to make sure the class will transfer and count toward your degree requirements.

Q: Can I attend UNT and another school at the same time?

A: Yes; see an advisor to discuss the courses you plan to take off-campus.

Q: Can I take a course Pass/No Pass?

A: Only if the course is an elective and is not required on your degree plan. Degree requirements (such as MATH 1710, CSCE 1030, or Technical Electives) cannot be taken Pass/No Pass. You must also be in good standing (have at least a 2.0 UNT GPA), and you cannot repeat a course as Pass/No Pass. You can only take one class Pass/No Pass per semester unless it is the semester you plan to graduate.

Q: Is there a difference between dropping and withdrawing?

A: Yes; dropping is when you remove one or two classes from your schedule; withdrawing is removing yourself from all of your classes for a semester. The two procedures have two different deadlines. You are responsible for knowing which deadline applies to which procedure.

Q: What are the drop and withdraw deadlines?

A: These dates can be found in the Academic Calendar.

Q: Will a grade of “WF” affect my GPA?

A: Yes; a grade of “WF” counts as an “F” in your GPA.

Q: What is the Six Drop Policy? Does it apply to me?

A: The Six Drop Policy states that students who enrolled in higher education for the first time during the Fall 2007 semester or later may drop a maximum of six classes throughout their academic careers. This does not apply to courses dropped before the census date (usually the 12th class day of a semester), courses dropped with a grade of WF, or if a student withdraws for the semester. Some exceptions are made for special situations such as severe illness, death in the family, and activation of military service. If you enrolled in college courses for the first time in Fall 2007 or later, this policy applies to you.

Q: I missed the deadline for the last day to drop a course W/WF. What should I do?

A: You should contact our office and set up an appointment with the Assistant Director of Academic Services, Chris Heiden. He will discuss your case with you and determine if you are eligible to receive the dean’s approval for you to drop the class. This procedure is mostly done for students who have circumstances beyond their control (illness, death in the family, etc.), NOT for students who “just forgot.”

Q: How will my AP/IB/CLEP Credit apply to my degree requirements?

A: UNT awards credit for AP scores according to this table. Please note that unless you are pursuing a Bachelor of Arts program, foreign language credit will count as elective credit only. Please also note that sciences other than BIOL 1710/30, BIOL 1720/40, CHEM 1410/30, CHEM 1420/40, PHYS 1710/30, and PHYS 2220/40 will not count toward your degree program.

Q: What does “advising required” or “transfer without match” on my transcript mean?

A: Both labels indicate that an advisor will need to evaluate the credit. Requesting a degree audit with your faculty advisor is the best way to have credits officially evaluated.

Q: What core classes can I take at a community college?

A: Core Requirements

Q: What College of Engineering core classes or major requirements can I take at a community college?

A: Transfer Guides

Q: How can I get an incomplete for a course?

A: Talk to your instructor about getting an incomplete. Please be aware that if your instructor agrees to give you an incomplete and you do not complete the stipulated work within a year or earlier time specified by the instructor, the grade of “I” will default to the automatic grade designated by the instructor, or, if no automatic grade is designated, a grade of “F.” Please keep in touch with instructors who have given you an “I” to prevent this from happening to you!
