Participating in the ICER online discussion:
Before using the
Online Discussion Tool, Please Read:
- The WebCTvista online discussion tool is
only fully supported through IE 6.0 or better. We recommend that
you use Internet Explorer as your web browser for this particular exercise.
- You
will need to respond with a Yes
or OK to all security warnings
and pop-ups.
- WebCTvista
makes extensive use of pop-up windows. Therefore, we suggest that you turn
the pop-up blocker on your browser off .(You can do this in IE by
selecting your Tools, Internet
Options, Privacy, Pop-up Blocker – see figure below) or, alternatively,
allowing pop-ups for the webctvista.unt.edu
application.

- Java
is required for only advanced functions such as uploading your paper. You can participate in the discussions
without installing Java.
To Participate in the
Participation:
- Connect
to the application by typing: http://webctvista.unt.edu
- Click the
link labeled: Logon to WebCT Vista
- Click
on: Log In
- You
will need to enter a user name and password. Your user name for this
application is:
- icer# (where # is the number that
was provided to you in a separate e-mail)
- Your
password is: (provided to you in a separate e-mail)
- You
will be prompted to change your password at the first session. After you
change your password, you will need to login again with your new password.
- Under the Course List select:
Integrative Computing
Education and Research (ICER) - Preparing IT Graduates for 2010 and Beyond
- At
this time, you should see a list of folders, each labeled with a different
participant name. The authors’ papers are stored in these folders. You can open a folder by clicking on it.
The author’s paper is stored as the first posting in each folder. Papers have
been posted as pdf files and, wherever possible, as html documents. To view a paper, simply click on the
paper’s link. The pdf version of the paper will be displayed in a new
window. You are allowed to have multiple papers open at the same time.
- To
submit your comments about a particular paper, click on the Create Message button that appears
on the page where the paper is linked and follow the form.
- You
can return to the page where all the folders are stored by clicking on the
Home Page link that appears at
the top of the application.
- To get
a quick overview of topics that have been discussed, click on the More Tools selection at the top (and
right) of the display, and select Discussions.
This will display a list of the folders and the number of postings that
have been made to each folder.
