OPEN FACULTY POSITIONS IN MECHANICAL AND ENERGY ENGINEERING The College of Engineering is moving ahead with plans for establishing a Mechanical and Energy Engineering (MEE) Department. This will be the fifth of the total of six planned departments for the College. Several tenure-track faculty positions are available to be filled in the next months. We intend to create an outstanding, innovative, and interdisciplinary program that emphasizes the fundamentals of engineering, modern applications pertaining to energy production, management and distribution, and life-long learning skills, within a research/project oriented environment. For this reason, we will hire several outstanding, innovative, and dynamic individuals who can “think outside the box” to become the founding faculty members of this new Department. Applications at all faculty ranks and all areas of Mechanical Engineering are sought. Preference will be given to candidates in the following areas:
The successful candidates must be able to support the teaching mission of the Department and to build successful, funded research programs. They should be able to develop and teach courses well, to supervise graduate students, to obtain funding for their research programs, and to communicate their research results in quality Journals and Conferences. Interdisciplinary activities in research and teaching and interactions with the other departments within the College of Engineering are very advantageous. Recent Ph.D. candidates with strong commitment to research and innovative teaching are particularly encouraged to apply for positions at the assistant professor level. Candidates for the higher ranks (associate professor and professor) must have a distinguished research record and significant extramural funding. UNT is located in Denton, Texas in the northern part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. This is an area of more than 6 million people, with significant economic growth, numerous industrial establishments, and excellent school districts. The area and the University provide excellent cultural and educational opportunities as well as exceptional employment opportunities for spouses. A doctoral/research university, UNT ranks in the top 4 percent of U.S. colleges and universities as classified by the Carnegie Foundation. The University has more than 31,000 students and offers 93 bachelors, 111 masters and 50 doctoral degree programs. The College of Engineering at UNT was established in 2003 and currently houses four Departments. It is projected that the ME&E Department will have a projected faculty of fifteen, and will offer programs at the bachelors, masters and doctoral levels.
