Curriculum Changes in 2009 May Affect Engineering Students

Each new school year at UNT brings many changes, one of which is the curriculum. The 2009-10 Undergraduate Catalog, scheduled to make its debut this summer, has several curriculum changes that may affect UNT and College of Engineering students.

The biggest change is to the UNT core curriculum. Beginning this fall, the University will combine its current Communications (3 hours fulfilled by ENGR 2060), Cross-cultural, Diversity and Global Studies (3 hours), and Wellness (3 hours) requirements into one large category called Understanding the Human Community (6 hours). In essence this change reduces the core requirements for these three categories from three classes to two classes. New students and students who have not completed their UNT core requirements will get the most benefit out of this change. Students who have already completed the core curriculum or have already taken ENGR 2060, Cross-Cultural, and Wellness classes will not be able to benefit from the change.

If you have questions about how the change affects you, please make an appointment to meet with a college advisor. [insert link to contact us]. It is important for students to remember that requirements can change from year to year, and changing to a new catalog may have benefits as well as drawbacks. Always discuss any catalog change with an advisor to make sure the change will be beneficial for you.
