Orientation
- All new students must attend an orientation at UNT prior to enrolling in classes. International students must also attend an international student orientation.
- Once students receive their acceptance letter and admissions packet, they may register for an orientation through the Office of New Student Programs. International students should also contact the Office of International Studies to schedule an international student orientation. We strongly recommend that student’s sign up for the earliest orientation possible to ensure all courses are still available.
- Orientation Checklist
- It is extremely important for students who have any kind of transfer or AP, CLEP, IB, or military credit to bring their transcripts or copies of their test scores to orientation. Often new students’ transcripts and/or test scores take a month or more to be entered into the system, and it is unlikely advisors will have easy access to these records on orientation day. Students who do not bring these materials with them will be asked to retrieve them from the Admissions Office before they meet with an advisor at orientation.
- At orientation students will have a meeting with the College of Engineering advisors. The meeting will consist of a presentation of academics and academic guidelines and tips for registration. Students will have a chance to meet one-on-one with an advisor for a preliminary evaluation of any transfer, AP, CLEP, IB, or military credit and for help selecting courses to register for the first semester.
- At orientation advisors will provide students with a unique four digit advising clearance code to allow students to register through MyUNT Every student has a different code, and students will not receive their code if they do not complete orientation.
- Every student is strongly urged to take a math course their first semester at UNT. Students who do not have proof of any college algebra level or higher math credit or AP credit for math will be required to take a math placement test at orientation. The placement test will determine what level of math students may enroll in for their first semester.
