Endowed PACCAR Professorship

THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS (UNT) invites applications for the Endowed PACCAR Professorship, a faculty position at the full professor level within the new Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering. The position is connected to the recently established PACCAR Technology Institute, providing the opportunity for a dynamic individual to establish and lead new initiatives and attract interdisciplinary researchers. The PACCAR Endowed Professor will direct the PACCAR Technology Institute which has been approved and created by UNT. Initially, the institute will include two assistant professors and will use the proceeds of its endowment to fund graduate students.

 

The successful candidate for this position should have an earned doctorate in engineering, a broad multidisciplinary background centered in Mechanical Engineering, academic credentials appropriate for a tenured full-professor appointment, an outstanding record of funded research and scholarly publications, and the ability to make an immediate impact on the externally funded research activities of the College of Engineering.  He/she is expected to establish and lead multidisciplinary research initiatives in the Energy and Mechanical Systems areas, with interfaces to materials and simulation. He/she will leverage the related faculty expertise existing in the various departments and programs of the College of Engineering and in the University’s other colleges. He/she will conduct globally recognized research. The successful candidate will have the opportunity and responsibility to contribute to the future directions of the department’s energy research. Candidates with experience in energy and mechanical systems are preferred. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

UNT with 34,000 students is located in Denton, Texas, in the northern part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. This area has more than 6 million people, with significant economic growth, numerous industrial establishments, and excellent school districts. The College of Engineering at UNT was established in 2003 and currently houses five departments. The Mechanical and Energy Engineering Department is the fifth department of the planned total of six, with expected faculty growth and with approved programs at the bachelor’s and master’s levels, and expectation of a future doctoral program.
