Research at the College of Engineering University of North Texas

(Research Brochure pdf)

Have you ever thought about who created fuel-efficient hybrid cars, developed instant messaging and computer games, or designed durable lightweight materials? Engineers are responsible for almost all of today’s technologies, from cell phones, digital cameras and DVDs to facial-recognition equipment, tiny in-body drug dispensing devices and spine-tingling amusement park rides.

Engineers are well-paid professionals, on par with business managers and lawyers. Engineering graduates with bachelor’s degrees have starting salaries of about $48,000, depending on their disciplines. Master’s and doctoral graduates’ salaries are even higher.

The analytical skills learned in engineering can prepare you for numerous professions. Some engineers become top managers, government officials, business owners, journalists, teachers, health professionals or lawyers.

UNT'S COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

UNT’s College of Engineering offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in various engineering disciplines. Our innovative curricula taught by experienced faculty will equip you with life-long learning skills so you can adapt as the industry changes and be competitive in a global market.

Key features of UNT's College of Engineering include:

  • small classes taught by professors, not graduate students
  • state-of-the-art labs and research facilities
  • project-based courses
  • research opportunities in emerging technologies, nanoscience and microscience technology, and computer science and technology

FACULTY

UNT’s distinguished College of Engineering faculty members have extensive teaching experience. They receive grants to fund research projects and earn national and international awards. In addition, faculty members provide academic advising, career counseling and mentoring — an important benefit whether you’re an undergraduate or graduate student.

PROJECT-ORIENTED STUDY

The College of Engineering offers many ways for you to learn about your discipline and evaluate real-world solutions. In your classes, you will work with students in small groups on projects, presentations and problems. You may also complete projects in the college’s many labs such as the electronics, manufacturing, wind tunnel and nanotechnology labs.

NANOSCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH FACILITY

UNT’s College of Engineering owns a focused ion beam microscope, a transmission electron microscope and a local electrode atom probe. No other industry or academic lab in the world is using all three devices together for research. The atom probe, which allows research on a picotechnology level, is one of only two probes in the nation owned by a university.

RESEARCH PARK

College of Engineering classes are held in the spacious UNT Research Park, equipped with wireless Internet access so you can freely connect with your laptop or PDA. UNT’s Research Park is near I-35, surrounded by ample parking and readily accessible by the campus shuttle bus.

LOCATION

Students and graduates can benefit from UNT’s location in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Texas ranks second nationwide in high-tech employment, and major technology employers are located nearby.

Internship and job opportunities are available at Dallas-Fort Worth companies such as EDS, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Sematech, Texas Instruments, American Airlines and TXU.
