Weber Aircraft Executive Talks to UNT Engineering Students - Feb. 5, 2009, Denton, TX
At a time when airline travel is commonplace for most people, few give much thought to passenger seats on an airliner, until it’s time to sit on one of them. A leader in commercial aircraft seating, Weber Aircraft LLC is one of the world’s top manufacturers of commercial aircraft seats for airlines and one of the major aircraft manufacturers in the United States and abroad. Weber’s headquarters and manufacturing facilities are located on a half-million-square-foot campus in Gainesville, Texas. The company also has a 120,000-square-foot service center in Atlanta, Georgia, for repairs, overhauls, and upgrades of aircraft interior products. Weber Aircraft has produced more than 800,000 passenger seats for all types of aircraft.

Raki Islam, vice president of R&D, engineering, and certification at Weber Aircraft, and five engineers of the company discussed Weber Aircraft's product line and explained the process of designing and manufacturing passenger seats for the commercial aircraft industry. The discussion encompassed areas of interest for new engineers willing to accept challenges for career advancement in technical and management roles.
The presentation was followed by a display of several of Weber Aircraft’s passenger seats. Students and faculty were able to interact one on one with Raki and his team, “test-drive” several economy- and business-class seats on display, and enjoy a complimentary lunch provided by Weber Aircraft.
| In his position as vice president, Islam oversees all of Weber Aircraft's engineering operations in the United States and abroad and is directly involved with government agencies such as the Federal Aviation Administration. | ![]() |
